    1) What is One-way, Two-way access controller?

    One way: One door, one reader. Users just need to tap in and get entry.
    Typical installation: Apartment entrance - One reader for entrance and a door button for exit. Users just tap in and push door button to go out.

    Two-way: One door, two readers. Users just need to tap in and tap out for the SAME DOOR.
    Typical application: Office - One for entrance (outside the office) and the other for exit (inside the office).
    Door push button may also be installed if necessary so users can tap out or use door push button to exit office.

    2) How to reset the access controller to factory settings?

    1. Power OFF the controller and switch DIP switches 1,3,5,7 to ON position
    2. Power ON again and wait for a few seconds.
    3. A long beep will be heard, then power OFF the controller.
    4. Switch DIP switches 1,3,5,7 to OFF position.
    5. Power ON again. The system is reset to factory settings.

    3) What is NO, NC, COM of a relay?

    NO: Normally Opened contact
    NC: Normally Closed contact
    COM: Common contact

    When there is no power applied to the relay coil, COM and NC are connected and COM and NO are disconnected.
    When power is applied to the relay coil, COM and NO are connected and COM and NC are disconnected.
    It is just like the concept of a light switch: when power is applied to the relay coil, COM and NO are connected. The current flows from the COM contact to the NO contact. The device connected to the relay is switch on.

    4) What is fail safe and fail secure type door lock?

    There are two types of electric lock: fail safe and fail secure.

    Fail safe locks are unlocked when the power goes out. That's why they are safe when power failure occurs.
    They require power to lock the door.
    For example: Magnetic locks. Typical installation of fail safe lock: Fire exit doors

    Fail secure locks are locked when the power goes out. That's why they are secure when power failure occurs.
    They require power to unlock the door.
    For example: Fail secure type electric strike. Typical installation of fail secure lock: Bank.

    5) I added users but I cannot see any users when I try to assign access level to them, why?

    It is because there is no Card Number for the users. You must add Card Number to all users even if keycode only access is required.
    Solution: 'Cheat' the system by inputting a 8-digit numbers in the Card Number input box.

    6) Can I have the same keycode for two or more users?

    No, you can't. All keycode must be unique.

    7) Is there any user group management ?

    Yes, there is.
    In a small scale system, you may grant the access rights by clicking the user name one by one. It's not time consuming.
    However, in a medium to large scale system, users are usually put in groups. Example, Worker, Manager, Sales People, Engineer etc.
    You can add users into the group and once you grant access rights to the group, all members belong to the group have the same access rights.

    8) What is the maximum number of doors does the access controller support?

    The access controller is IP based, each access controller has its own IP, so the number of doors supported is actually limited by the number of available IP address of the network.
    For example, if there is one PC and 255 access controllers connected together via a network switch with subnet: 255.255.255.0, there are 255 free IP addresses (one IP address is used by the PC), so maximum number of doors support = 255 x 8 = 2040 doors.
    Want more ? No problem! Change the subnet to 255.255.0.0, you'll get: (65536-1) x 8 = 524,280 doors.

    9) Can I use one card reader to open two or more doors?

    Technically it is possible but it is not recommended.
    For fail secure locks, connect them in parallel.
    For fail safe locks, connect them in series.

    10) I cannot uninstall the Smart PSS, why?

    It is because there are two tasks: PC-NVR.exe and Challenge.exe are running in the background. You must end these tasks then you can uninstall the Smart PSS.
    Note: The end task must be in order: End PC-NVR.exe first then Challenge.exe.

    Solution:

    1. Press Window Key + R
    2. In the "Open" inputbox, type: Taskmgr.exe and click "OK"
    3. Go to the "Detalis" tab and scroll down to find "PC-NVR.exe"
    4. Sometimes it is ends automatically then you may not find it. If it is running then select the item and click "End Task".
    5. Now scroll up to find the "Challenge.exe".
    6. Select the item and click "End Task".
    7. Now all resident tasks for Smart PSS have been cleared. You can start the uninstallation.

    If your are a proficient Windows user, you may use the command line method:

    1. Press Window Key + R
    2. In the "Open" inputbox, type: taskkill /f /im challenge.exe and press <ENTER> key
    3. Press Window Key + R again
    4. In the "Open" inputbox, type: taskkill /f /im challenge.exe and press <ENTER> key

    11) If I have set up the Smart PSS before, do I have to set up the Smart PSS again if the access controller is reset to factory settings? I can see the user information is still in the Smart PSS.

    Unfortunately, you must set up User rights and Access Levels etc again after the access controller is reset to factory settings. Although you can see the user information and access levels on the PC, these information has not downloaded to the controller. You must clear all information previously added to the Smart PSS and set up again.

    12) Fingerprint reader can read cards but cannot read fingerprints, why?

    Fingerprint readers must be wired up on 485 bus, i.e. use the wires 458+ and 485- for the Fingerprint readers. Disconnect the Wiegand signal connections before you connect the 485 bus.
